Royce Mitten, Project Manager

A quick, pragmatic problem-solver, Royce views the goal of architecture as creating spaces that are both practical and efficient as well as beautiful and captivating. He enjoys the challenge of coordinating multiple building trades into a successful project. Royce is responsible for developing construction details, and understanding the various codes that govern the construction industry. He has managed multiple projects from design through construction including breweries, restaurants, and residences. Before joining Amato Architecture, he worked for Saikley Architects, focusing on residential projects, and Gregory Paul Wallace S.E., where he developed a deep appreciation for structural systems.

“I’m an admirer of Brutalism, the underappreciated post-war architectural style exemplified by overbearing government buildings around the world. The modular massing and sculptural quality speaks to the beauty and unpretentiousness of concrete. I am drawn to the style’s honesty and strength: what you see is what you get.”

Royce holds a Bachelor of Architecture from California Polytechnic State University San Luis Obispo and studied abroad at the Ecole National Superieure d’Architecture Paris Val-De-Seine in France. A native of California, Royce lives in Oakland with his wife and daughter. He enjoys hiking, camping, traveling and exploring, researching history and philosophy, learning new things, and being creative.
